Toyota Safety Sense
Designed to Keep You, Your Passengers, and All Who Share the Roads Safer
Toyota believes that no matter the destination, everyone deserves to arrive safely. That's why Toyota Safety SenseTM 1 (TSS) is standard on virtually all Toyota models. TSS is an advanced suite of active safety designed to support driver awareness, decision making, and vehicle operation.
Packaged together in an integrated system, TSS helps address three key areas of accident protection: preventing or mitigating frontal collisions, keeping drivers within their lane, and enhancing road safety during night-time driving.
TSS-C
TSS-C features Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, and Automatic High Beams.
TSS-P
TSS-P adds to TSS-C with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.
TSS 2.0
Builds on TSS-P, and consists of up to six active safety & driver assistance systems.
TSS 2.5+
TSS 2.5+ adds new capabilities to the Pre-Collision and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control Systems and enhances Lane Tracing Assist.
Pre-Collision System (PCS)
TSS-C - Pre-Collision System²
Provides collision avoidance or collision mitigation in certain situations where a frontal collision is likely to occur.
TSS-P - PCS w/ Pedestrian Detection³
PCS has been enhanced to help detect pedestrians in certain situations.
TSS 2.0 - PCS w/ Daytime/Low-Light Vehicle & Pedestrian Detection, Daytime Bicycle Detection³
Helps to detect bicyclists in daytime situations & vehicles and pedestrians in daytime & low-light situations.
TSS 2.5+ - PCS w/ Daytime/Low-Light Vehicle & Pedestrian Detection, Daytime Bicycle Detection, Intersection Support & Emergency Steering Assist³
May warn you of oncoming pedestrians or vehicles when making a turn at an intersection and provide emergency braking in certain conditions. Emergency Steering Assist is designed to stabilize the driver's emergency steering maneuver and keep the vehicle in its lane when avoiding a pedestrian, cyclist or another vehicle.
Lane Departure Alert (LDA)
TSS-C - Lane Departure Alert4
Alerts you if you start to drift out of your lane when visible lane markings are detected.
TSS-P - LDA with Steering Assist5
Some models with TSS-P may include the Steering Assist Function & may provide small corrective steering inputs.
TSS 2.0 - LDA with Steering Assist & Road Edge Detection5
The next addition to LDA is the detection of road edges or curbs at certain speeds may trigger gentle corrective steering inputs if action is not taken.
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)
TSS-P - Dynamic Radar Cruise Control7
Can automatically adjust your vehicle speed to maintain a preset following distance between you and the vehicle directly in front of you. The system is designed to work between speeds of approximately 40 km/h to 180 km/h.
TSS-C - Full Speed Range DRCC7
Can perform vehicle-to-vehicle distance control down to 0 km/h, and resume from a complete stop.
TSS 2.5+ - Full Speed Range DRCC with Curve Speed Management7
The Curve Speed Management function will determine if the vehicle speed needs to be reduced when approaching a curve in the road and will decelerate automatically if required.
Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)
Automatic High Beams
TSS-C, TSS-P, TSS 2.0, TSS 2.5+ - Automatic High Beam6
The system reacts to oncoming headlamps or preceding tail lamps, automatically switching from high-beam to low-beam and then back again once the coast is clear.
